I saw a tweet today about how Bergeron might be the most underrated player ever, and used the fact that he's never gotten a first-place Hart vote as evidence.

I'm not saying that he isn't a great player, but I genuinely don't know when he should have been league MVP. This is the first season he's been above a point-per-game. He's won four Selkes, which might be low all things considered, but 1. Datsyuk "only" won three / Zetterberg never won it 2. Isn't the Selke the trophy that measures Bergeron's contributions the best? Four of them is still pretty impressive! Only Bob Gainey won four and I suspect the league might not have known of other defensive forwards at the time.

I can't remember the last time the Hart went to a forward that wasn't in the top ten in scoring.

Ryan "Toxic" "Locker room cancer" O'Reilly turns out to not be a horrible person: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/o-reilly-o ... ts~1635431

Can't think of any time a Canadian NHLer has said anything like "the way we've treated Indigenous people as Canadians has been awful for a very many years"

I read a thing in The Athletic about him and how he loves playing guitar and likes a lot of indie folk-type dudes. He seemed like a good dude.

He successfully employed the Zack Kassian "I wasn't driving" defense.

I went to see Captain Marvel last night (a solid B/B- by MCU standards) instead of sitting around and watching the BLOT toy with the Wings. I was very surprised when the movie ended that it was 3-1 Wings (Abdelkader scored? The fuck?) but by the time I got home it was 4-3 BLOT. I turned it on in time to see Kucherov score his second goal of the night / fourth point -- does he ever not score two goals against the Wings? -- and a late Rasmussen goal made it closer but they couldn't tie it.

It was Zadina's last game with the Wings this year and he ended with 1G 2A in 9 games, which is alright, but his play was generally encouraging. The Wings were offensively challenged, to say the least, for the vast majority of his time with the big club, and I'm curious how he'll do next year if he starts the year in Detroit.

Rasmussen's kind of the forgotten top-ten pick with the team. He hasn't generated a ton of shots (71 in 59 games) and I'm surprised only four of his goals were on the PP, since that's definitely where he's most noticeable. But I would like to see him get an opportunity as a complementary piece on a scoring line instead of flanking De La Rose / Glendening / Abdelkader / whoever else. His goal came on a shift with Vanek and Zadina and yeah, it was a chip-in from the front of the net, but he helped push the play up ice, too.

On the plus side, losing in regulation and a surprise SNES win over the Blooze brings the Wings within four points of last place. They're still tied with the Kings for second-worst.

I watched the last period of the game in which Bernier made a ton of saves and nothing much happened on the Wings' side.

- Lashoff / Witkowski is truly the defensive pair of the damned
- I did not notice Kuffner at all, but he also only played 7:08 and I don't know if any of that was in the third
- Dekeyser played almost 29 minutes, holy shit. ME SO HRONEK logged over 24. I'll give Blashill credit here, those are the best two D they had, followed by Kronwall (20 minutes) and Bowey (almost 20 minutes).
- Pretty weird that AA scored two goals and one went in off Pulock and the other was a tap-in from the side of the goal, at this point I expect him to score exclusively on breakaways or when he tears through multiple defenders

Paajarvi was taken three picks before Zack Kassian

Kassian somehow has more points (138 to 117, presumably not counting tonight's offensive explosion) in basically the same amount of games

Ryan Ellis went right after Paajarvi but 1. who knows if he develops properly in Edmonton 2. a whole lot of middling players went after that http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2009e.html
