I was reading comments section comments about the guy who stole the HR ball away to throw back on the field, they were comment section quality comments for sure.

Real bummer, I wasn't as plugged into baseball during his time with the Jays as I have been for the last 6 or 7 years but he was obviously one of their all time greats, seemed like a good guy too.

Damn this sucks. Halladay on the Jays was like my peak baseball fandom.

My first September in Toronto my friend gave me her Toronto Star pass cuz she and her dude were sick of going to see them lose. Got to see Doc's last start when everyone knew he would be traded. There was probably fewer than 20k people there and back then it was so easy to sit anywhere in the dome after a couple innings so me and my bud were like 10 rows behind the jays dugout when he got taken out and did his last walk from the mound.

maybe i'm remembering the wrong game, reference says he pitched a complete game in his last home start https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 9250.shtml

or maybe he just exited the game in the 9th by himself to soak up the applause.

I was at this MIN-TOR game where Halladay started a few weeks earlier - https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxe ... 9090.shtml - sitting in the RF 100 level seats, basically with the section to myself, for most of the game before moving to the 3rd base line seats. then Morneau hit a homerun off Halladay directly to where I'd move from, and I was crestfallen.

I'll defer to Paul's boss, but it strikes me as kind of a John Denver situation.

The Halladay crash was never discussed in my office.

Zaun just got canned for allegedly being a creep

This feature on Ichiro is great, if a bit unsettling and haunting

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKIN ROCKIES BUDS!!!

I mean they beat the announcers who were constantly looking for a reason to suck Jon Lester's cock despite Lyle Freeland not allowing a hit for like four consecutive innings. They beat a series of shitty calls against them starting with the top of the first where they called a dead ball in that stupid ivy while Blackmon was 2/3 of his way to third, and continuing to calling that backup catcher out at 2nd on that bullshit double play, giving Jon Lester all the corner calls while squeezing Freeland (and he still gave up fewer hits), calling no swing on multiple check swings that were obvious swings, letting Javy Baez interfere with Arenado (yeah probably not a big deal but fuck it I'll just roll with it) and giving Contreras like 30 minutes to decide he can continue.

Then some dude who hits like .135 beat them. Fuck the fucking Cubs.

My earlier observations smack of obvious homerism but fuck it it was like the whole world wanted the Rockies to lose. Fuck everybody. Don't even care if they lose now.

I generally like the Cubs but they were a very unlikeable team this year with the Addison Russell story and Maddon’s response to it.

Maddon made some terrible decisions last night.

Kyle Freeland was on Effectively Wild this year (https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/effecti ... -freeland/)

Good way to win me over to your fanbase (also play in a state where it's legal)

Crazy game. I caught the extra innings after getting home from hockey, thought it might go all night.
