Out in the City of Champions, the CFL Season actually starts in October and ends at the end of November, not July and ending around Labour Day like it routinely does for a lot of other franchises.

What a gutsy performance by the Eskimos today in historic Commonwealth Stadium. Let this be a notice to rest of the league that unless you are the Calgary Stampeders, it will take a FULL 60 minute effort to come close to beating this juggernaut.

I would like to ask that the moderator please lock the previous CFL Season thread as it's now irrelevant. The season starts in October as far as I and most everyone else who knows anything about winning is concerned.

As a fan of the team with the longest active winning streak in the CFL, I support this most reasonable of requests.

this is a great idea.

let's bury that pathetic pre-season thread and get on with games that are important

players, teams and fans need to realize that Grey Cups aren't won or lost in the first 10 weeks of the season.

gutsy win yesterday, playoff race is gonna be awesome

i'm predicting the esks get a cross-over berth to the east, where they make short work of hamilton and montreal to meet the rival calgary stamps for a battle of alberta in the Grey Cup.

official C(anadian )F(ootball )L(eague) thread

i didn't get to watch yesterday's game but it seemed like another tough loss. cats need to string some wins together to have a chance at hosting the eskimos in a cross-over playoff game.

and all of a sudden, "the worst Eskimos team in history" is ahead of the Bombers in the standings. :(

BEHOLD THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

Quote:
The Edmonton Eskimos may be 4-9 going into Week 15 of the Canadian Football League, but they played their best game in beating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-35 last Sunday at Commonwealth.

Now winners of two in a row, Edmonton can still qualify for the playoffs if they can continue playing with the confidence they demonstrated in the last two games. Maybe it's the influence of Eric Tillman as general manager; players know they are being re-evaluated in every way. Maybe it's the trip to Moncton. Spending so much time together does develop an attitude of us against the world. Maybe it was just inevitable. I mean, after so much disappointment, every team does rebound at some point in a season. Or maybe, just maybe, it's the accountability board.

What is that, you ask? In the Edmonton locker room, every player can see every other player's grade; both at practice and in games. That's right; players are studied on how they play every week and it dictates future employment and financial success. Now, the majority of the time the grade is not public; only the players, coaches and higher management know. And it's personal and private because it truly is the bottom line in how you are perceived and respected. The better the grade, the more respect – the lower the grade, the more insecurity.

In the Eskimos' locker room, it's public to other players and by being public to other players it puts a unique pressure on the players to truly be the absolute best they can be. Players desire respect from coaches and management; fans and media, not so much. But more than anybody or anything else, players want to be respected by other players - both the opposition and on your own team. Being respected by other players because you know, and they know, you're good at what you do. It's a great feeling. Not having that appreciation, that understanding that you are more than just average, is very difficult to deal with.

But does it work; does it make a difference?

I can only tell you that in my playing days, if I knew my peers would know my private information of how well or not so well I am playing, I would never take a play off, always give second efforts and physically attack everything that moves on the football field.

I guarantee you that the Edmonton players, while in the down moments if the game, were thinking of the accountability board. Thinking that a poor grade in a public forum that other players can see is a feeling they must avoid and realizing that they can control their personal grade the very next play. It is a brilliant idea, but it is tough to deal with because of the pressure you feel to be respected by others you in many cases respect. Think about your occupation in the present. Imagine that once a week your boss posts how well you did that week, with a numerical assessment or even percentage. Could you take that type of pressure every week? Football is a tough sport in so many ways, and one of the biggest reasons is that every week is a new challenge and evaluation. If you rise to the challenge, you keep your job and obtain respect. If you don't, insecurity is felt internally and others know it. And yes, you can take advantage of it.

I don't know if Edmonton is going to make the playoffs, we will find out over the next five weeks. I do know this, though. The players will be playing harder, smarter and with more energy than they have ever before. Not to earn the money or for the pride. Not even because it's the right thing to do as a player. It's to look good on that accountability board and be respected. It is tough love, but man it works!

ALL HAIL THE ACCOUNTABILITY BOARD
