I've never watched an NBA draft before, but tuned in for Ayton and Phoenix having #1. Is it always this wild?

At least 3 times now a player has been drafted and then immediately traded. Like this kid is being interviewed right after walking off the stage in a Suns hat, but he's already been traded to Philly.

Philly drafted a kid whose mom works for the team, and they did a very nice interview about how proud she will be of him playing there. 6 picks later he was traded to Phoenix for the player the Suns just drafted at 16 and a 1st round pick...in 2021.

I was told tonight that teams are not allowed to trade picks during the draft, which is why you see the weird shit with the trades after the picks. Teams work it out ahead of time and tell each other who to draft.

It is weird that NBA team are so willing to trade far-future picks, like Philly getting Miami's 2021 first-rounder from the Suns, which seems to often result in stuff like the Sixers and Celtics having high picks even when they're good. I'm trying to figure out when NHL teams stopped doing that, since it definitely seems like the smart NHL teams did that a lot in the 70s and 80s and then the practice mostly moved to far-future 6th/7th rounders.

yeah the trades that are like, 1st round pick where it's top-5 protected 2019-20, top-3 protected 21-22, unprotected 2023 it's like no way there will still be a USA in 2023 so just trade those picks is my advice
