I don't know. Jake Virtanen on the 3rd line seems a little optimistic.

Bad Eichel proposals are in right now

Eichel to Boston
Just trying to cut out the inherent *RFA offer sheet* scenario.

To Bruins:
Eichel ELC (1x925k)
Bogosian RHD (3x5.2)

To Sabres:
Zboril LHD ELC (2x895k)
Carlo RHD ELC (2x790k)
Spooner RFA
Pastrnak RFA

Trouba + Connor/Roslovic + 2017 first for Eichel

The Canes don't have a cap issue, and there's no reason to think they wouldn't increase their spending for a trade that makes them a better team. If anything, cap relief is one of the trading chips we have to offer.

Part of the issue here is that trading Hanifin opens up a huge hole at LHD. So something has to come back to fill that hole. The obvious solution to both of the above paragraphs is Marc Staal.

Now I realize that Stepan + Zuccarello + Staal is going to take more than Hanifin as a return.

Problem is the Canes don't have a ton of NHL level talent to spare, as most of their solid assets are core contributors who would create hole if they left. So really we have to deal from draft picks. So maybe we can close that value gap by swapping draft position with the Rangers for next season.

Also, we have to keep in mind that the contracts need to balance out or we will go over the limit.

So:
Stepan + Zuccarello + Staal + 1st 2018 + 2nd 2018 + 3rd 2018
for
Hanifin + Nestrasil + Carrick + 1st 2018 + 2nd 2018 + 3rd 2018

Quote:
I like the concept, but I think the picks are too skewed in NYR's favor when you consider we'd be doing them a HUGE favor in taking Staal and that Zucc only has 2 years left on his deal so those two things almost cancel each other out, because Staal and his contract are SO bad and we'd be helping out their expansion woes so that's worth something. He's actually worse than Girardi right now. Canes picks will very likely be the higher picks as well.

Stepan + Zuc + Staal + Ranta + 1st 2018 +2nd 2018 + 3rd 2018
Hanifin + Nestrasil + Carrick + Lack (50% retained) + Ryan Murphy + NYR 2nd 2017 + PITS 2nd 2017 + NJD 3rd 2017 + 3rd 2018.

I'm just gonna spitball this idea.

JVR for Tanev. We add a small sweetener if necessary, like Marchenko OR a 2nd.

Benning is scorching the earth and could really use a rental like JVR to flip for picks at the deadline.

So I'm bored. And I want to know how fans would feel about an all Canadian blockbuster. So;

To Edmonton:

Dion Phaneuf
Colin White
Andreas Englund
1st 2019

To Ottawa:

Leon Draisaitl
Mark Fayne

Firstly, I wanted to avoid trading Chabot in this scenario, and seeing as Dion would accept a trade to Edmonton, and salaries had to be exchanged in order to make it work for Ottawa, it fit for me. Three solid pieces of youth and a legitimate pair two warrior for the #1C Ottawa has looked for since forever. (Spezza doesn't count because he received too much flak)

Also, as many posters have pointed out, both Dion and Leon are at market high values right now stemming from their playoff runs. I also added White over Brown because of his safer style of play and his NHL readiness. Anyways, seeing as this has likely been posted somewhere else, flog away!

If you change the pick to a 2020 1st and Fayne to Gryba (homecoming!), they could do both!

the best trade proposals are the ones where a team gives up their most valuable asset for a player they don't need so they can trade that player, who they don't need and who is less valuable than the one they are trading, to another team for something else that they do need.

the player all teams need is a middle-6 power forward who doesn't hit or cycle and who will be worth much more than players better than him will be worth at the deadline, for some reason.

seriously though I love JVR and I don't think he will get in a trade what he's worth to the Leafs and to me so rather just keep him

PROPOSAL:

TOR sends
James van Riemsdyk (expiring UFA @ $4m) or Tyler Bozak (expiring UFA @ 4m)
Connor Brown (unsigned RFA)
Connor Carrick (RFA @ .750m, signed through this season)
Higher Pick (1st? 2nd?) or B-Prospect they like

to CAR for
Justin Faulk ($4.833m for 2 more seasons)
Lee Stempniak (expiring UFA @ $2.5m)
Lower Pick (2nd? 3rd?)

RATIONALE:

From CAR side...
They seem to want to make the playoffs this year and need scoring. JvR's good for 25-30 goals and 60 points, and Bozak and Brown are good for ~20.
Bozak/JvR are gone after the season, but Brown, coming off a 20g rookie campaign, stays and is cost-controlled.
They have lots of talented, young, and (some) better defensemen who look ready to take over for Faulk (Pence, Slavin, Hanifin... with Fleury not far behind... and Bean coming along) and have already acquired the other van Riemsdyk to add to their top-4.
Losing Stempniak might have budgetary benefits (salary dump)... but if not, a prospect or something to take up a roster spot with the departure of JvR/Bozak and Brown.

From TOR side...
Team remains one good defenseman short in the top-4 (Hainsey's a better 5) and is trying to make a run this year.
Faulk has been playing on CAR's top pair, is RHD, has good shot generation numbers, and seems the most likely to be moved of CAR's defensemen.
Carrick, while decent in the top-4 last season, has been pushed out of the top-4, and probably isn't in the long-term plans with Dermott and the Swedes coming along.
JvR and Bozak are expiring and will be too expensive for TOR to re-sign with Matthews, Marner, Nylander coming up. Now's the time to turn them into something (can see how season goes and make deadline acquisition for more scoring is necessary)
As for Brown... the prospect pool on the wing is deep, so he will likely be replaced internally in a couple years anyway.
Stempniak is good depth to have, can be useful in case of injuries.

the Leafs get to trade JVR for whatever player on another team they want the most so I'm afraid we will have to pass on the JVR for Mike Green deal. we gotta get this trade just right.

But the Red Wings really need to get rid of their shot at Dahlin / Svechnikov 2.0
