HF Leafs need to cool it

the leafs will loan then pickard, not trade, loan. besides its not a big deal for vegas, they aren't meant to be competitive this year anyways. giving their potential goalie of the future some starts isn't the worst thing in the world

Proposal: A quick rebuild in Montreal

I obviously don't think that we should do half of this stuff, but everyone else is freaking out so I figured "If I was M.B what would I try to do, other than get fired?"

Montreal Receives: Kyle Connor, Jacob Trouba
Winnipeg Receives: Carey Price, Lehkonen

Jets get a real, consistent goaltender (inB4 "Price has been awful all season, his contract sucks") in Price, Habs get a young, puck moving Top 2 RD, and a solid 2LW prospect in K.C

Montreal Receives: Sam Reinhart, Alex Nylander.

Buffalo Receives: Max Pacioretty, Joni Ikonen, Hudon, 2018 2nd, , 2019 2nd.

Reinhart is not bad by any stretch, and Nylander could end up being the real deal, but neither are remotely close to being 'elite forces'. Sabres get one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, draft picks to recoup, and a solid player in Ikonen who could end up similar to Girgensons. Habs get two young, dynamic forwards with good potential, but the value is relatively equal considering Nylander having not done much, and Reinhart having been 'good' but nothing spectacular.

Montreal Receives: Nylander, Kadri.

Toronto Receives: Weber, McCarron. (Add pick?)

The Leafs are going to be in cap hell when they eventually have to resign Nylander/Marner, and unless Liljegren turns out to be a complete stud, the Leafs are in dire need of an elite defenceman. Lou is probably the only GM in the NHL who can deal with building an elite roster despite having a bunch of money sunk into nothing (assuming Weber ends up being a mess pre-35 which I doubt). Nylander is the forward you want to move if you are Toronto (from Marner/Matthew/Nylander), and Kadri is the perfect 3C for Montreal. Toronto sacrifices a bit of scoring and salary now, but solves their biggest issue as a team, putting them in the position to seriously contend for a cup in the next 2-3 seasons.

Montreal continues to tank this season, and hopefully drafts Dahlin. :thumbu:

Montreal then uses the dumb cap space they have, and throw 10,000,000 at Tavares!

Galchenyuk/Tavares/Drouin
Nylander/Nylander/Reinhart
Connor/Kadri/Gallagher
Byron/Danault/Shaw

Dahlin/Trouba
Mete/Juulsen
Alzner/Benn

Goaltending would be yikes, but that's something that would be addressed by moving Petry + 2019 1st ++ or Free Agency. Team ends up having a young top 4, and an insanely strong group of forwards. How far off are these trades? What would you change (add/remove?)

Please don't come in and say "The Leafs don't want Weber" or "The Jets want nothing to do with Price's contract" because you're punch drunk if you think Lou or Chevel turn down players like Weber or Price if Montreal comes knocking.

*** ALTERNATIVELY ***

Habs trade Weber, McCarron and Nylander to Toronto for Marner/Kadri/Liljegren/Kapanen -- depending if the Leafs value Marner or Nylander higher

Have at it :)

It’s always good to get the best two players in a deal and give up a horrible contract

Not technically a proposal but in a “What is Matthew Tkachuk worth” thread

I would trade Gaudreau all day before Chucky, so for me he’s just not available. It would have to be for someone for like an Austin Matthews, Barkov, Laine, in other words it’s not happening.

From The Athletic comments on the Top 20 UFAs this summer:

Quote:
Trouba and Mason to Detroit for Athanasiou.

Seems to me, Athanasiou would like a change of scenery and Trouba can come back to Michigan. Detroit obviously gets the rights to a better player so they take on the Mason contract for 1 more year while he serves as backup to Jimmy Howard. After next season, both goalie contracts would be off the books and we'd hopefully have one of Larsson/Machovsky/Fulcher/Van Pottelburghe ready to go.

l: Hurricanes/Bruins/Oilers three way trade idea

1st trade
To Bruins: Jordan Staal, Justin Faulk, Noah Hanifin, Justin Williams

To Hurricanes: David Krejci, Torey Krug, Kevan Miller, David Backes (Bruins eat half the salary), Acciari, Czarnik, JFK, future 1st

* Staal and Krejci waive their NTC

2nd trade
To Hurricanes: Klefbom, 2018 10th pick
To Oilers: Krug, Skinner, 2018 2nd round pick

Reason for trade for the Oilers: Need to improve PP. Need a QB for the PP. Need a scoring winger. Need to get back into the playoffs

Reason for trade for the Hurricanes: Haven't made the playoffs now for 8-9 years straight. The "leadership core" needs a shake up. Replace Hanifin (no extension required) with Klefbom who is locked up for the long term on a terrific deal. Obtain another top 10 2018 pick

Reason for trade for the Bruins: Hanifin is a D the team has wanted ever since the 2015 draft.

Gallagher & 3rd for Draisaitl. RNH can move to second centre.

Thoughts?

I honesty thought this meant a 3rd round pick, not the 3rd overall

I’m sure HFHabs would go “BUT YOU AGREED!!! NO TAKEBACKS!!!”

based on a rumor (MTL/EDM)

To MTL
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

To EDM

1 of the following:

Drouin

or

Shaw

or

Byron

"The Oilers and Canadiens seem to be connected via the trade rumor grapevine every year, don’t they? But it’s always been Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ name being thrown around."

This one is real confusing

Hypothetical scenario here based on Mtl first trading with the Oilers & Dallas in some capacity for the 10th and 13th overall selections. (If management does indeed go full rebuild and trades away Pacioretty and takes on Lucic's contract with other pieces being involved.)

Would Detroit fans do this?

DET:
10th OA
13th OA

MTL:
6th OA
30th OA
67th OA

Logic for MTL being to select both Kotkaniemi and Dobson. Logic for Detroit being to select twice early in the draft.
