I felt like most people who weren’t Habs fans thought it favored the Coyotes, but not to an insane degree

Habs fans were all over the map, depending on whether they liked Galchenyuk to begin with

My favorites were people who hate Bergevin but didn’t hate this trade

This post is TL/DR material but the gist is that the Red Wings give up both Larkin and their 2019 first-rounder

Quote:
The purpose of this thread is to ask 2 questions:
1, how much does the love of Larkin impact his theoretical potential availability
and
2, if he can be had for a reasonable overpayment, can NYR-DET structure a win-win.

Larkin availability
Obviously, he is not only a top asset, he is also a fan favorite. That properly should add a bit to the overpayment required to pry him loose, but how much is a bit? If a good deal on paper is seen, do Wings settle for profit? Or is there a posture of the moon is not enough, it would take the sun and the stars and the moon?
I see a strategic win win fit for both clubs, but the overpayment can't be so much as to gut an acquiring club. Larkin is all that, he may indeed be all that and a bag of chips, he commands that much. But we are not in or anywhere near MacKinnon, let alone McDavid territory.

NYR-DET
Assuming Larkin costs real overpayment, but not crazy massive overpayment, the Winged Wheel and Broadway Blueshirts should chat.
Larkin will command an overpayment, let's recognize that is a given. What is negotiable is how much and the other currency [pieces] in the deal impacting that.

Red Wings need:
help across the board, youth is nice, they have some but it is not ready, and can barely finagle the cap putting Franzen on IR [currently 2.8ish m per CapFriendly]. Quality elcs are highly valued here as well as league wide.

Rangers need:
upgrades and talent acquisition, preferably younger to ease molding of a new younger core; facilitated consolidation of assets to upgrade/better manage talent pool

The offer --- the following package:
To DET: Larkin (rfa)* + DET 2019 1st unprotected + cap dump Vanek 3m expiring
for
To NYR: Skjei (rfa) + Andersson elc + Buchnevich elc + NYR 2019 2nd + Halverson
*preferably 8 years at 6m per, then immediately traded to NY

analysis: Detroit
-- money standpoint: Skjei renew cost will be closer to 5, Larkin closer to 6, so that is real $ saved. If Howard dealt, disappointing 2nd rounder Halverson is a freebie throw in who, if he can cut the mustard enough, is another body to backup starter Bernier; not a long term solution but possible stopgap saving $ while Howie nets assets. Andersson is immediate top 6 who replaces Larkin at 1C, solid Swedish background, looks good to pair with Zadina. Add elc Buchnevich, who plays either W. Losing Vanek's $3m is addition by subtraction.
-- talent standpoint: Larkin atm is the best single piece, but totality of what is delivered is clearly talent add to Red Wings. $ and cap mgmt aside, solid adds at LW, C, and W. Andersson and Buchnevich are solid bets, and Skjei looks a lot like a rough version of McDonagh pre all the injuries. Surrender of 1st is somewhat offset by Rangers 2nd, gives Detroit 3 2nds for next year, so possibility to move back into 1st round is not a given, but plausible. Andersson was 7OA. With this deal, Detroit will be improved but still likely a non-playoff [eg lottery] team. That pick COULD go very high, but it could be later. If we split the possibles it could be close to this year's 6OA, and Andersson is full 3 years elc ready and available to play NOW, no lost time developing.

analysis: New York
-- money standpoint: no issues, Rangers have cap, Larkin is a long term build, and Vanek expiring is not a concern,
-- talent standpoint: Skjei is our best LD, but this year does not count, we are positioning ourselves to emerge the following year (best case scenario). We have multiple LD prospects and we want to be ready to make those available quickly once someone emerges, so value of Skjei as a downpayment in Larkin deal is smart. We will showcase Smith and not overuse Staal at 3LD with an eye to replace at some pt next year.
Andersson, we hardly knew ye, but we are tying our cart to Chytil, so Andy is expendable if someone pays enough. Andy + for 2019 1st works for NY.
Buch and the 2nd are necessary sacrifices.
Halverson is an afterthought, we have plenty of G prospects as we wait for Shesty.

This brings us to Larkin.
I make no apologies whatsoever for my adamant insistence that , all things equal, we try Boo Nieves, who in a vacuum is clearly NOT a 1C, as a pivot with Kreider, who is our 1LW regardless of linemates, to see what kind of chemistry is possible, and if terrif speed x2 + the right RW = synergy, as Boo would only have to support his Ws, not drive the offensive play for them. However, Dylan's acquisition would not be all things =. He is an elite skater, a la Kreider, though only 6'1", possibly filling out a tad more at 21. Unlike Nieves, he can already shoot. Despite off year last season he is worth the cost if it is this and no more. Kravtsov will make it a dominant line.

Also looking ahead, this could help NY win the Panarin sweepstakes by making Fs deeper and NY more attractive.
Kreider - Larkin - Kravtsov
Chytil - Hayes - Panarin
Vesey - Nieves - Fast
Gropp - Howden - Lettieri

with some current Fs moved for RD help or picks

comments.... [constructive analysis welcomed]

I was thinking about dumb HFProposals in this capacity: Pretty much the entire internet is being suffocated with people insisting things that are Very Obviously Wrong, but they're bullheadedly pushing those things as Indisputable Facts. Seeing that stuff is absolutely exhausting when it comes to political matters, but there's something quaint about people just being incredibly off-base on the trade value of PK Subban as opposed to, say, children being locked in cages.

In the Nylander discussion thread on HFLeafs

Quote:
There's a pretty simple solution here:

1) Trade: Nylander + Leivo + Gauthier to Montreal for Gallagher (1.5m retained) + Suzuki + 1st (2019)

2) Select: Jack Hughes with the 1st overall pick in 2019.

3) Trade: Zaitsev + Hyman + Brown + Carrick to Carolina for Pesce (1.5m retained) + Necas

4) Sign: Panarin + Stone + Myers to team friendly contracts.

5) Start: the 2019-20 with:
Panarin - Matthews - Marner
Kadri - Tavares - Stone
Marleau - Hughes - Gallager
Johnson - Necas - Kapanen
Grundy - Suzuki - Engvall
--------------------
Marchy - Moore - Bracco
Timashov - Brooks - Korshkov
Chebykin - Joshua - Ferguson
Holmberg - Stotts - Dzierkals

Rielly - Myers
Dermott - Pesce
Borgman - Holl
Rosen - Oziganov
------------
Sandin - Liljegren
Nielsen - Durzi
Gordeev - Rasanen
Greenway - Subban

In the Trouba trade thread on HFJets; Detroit and Florida come up a lot as the most likely landing spots:

Quote:
Detroit,
Veleno, Hronek, 2019 2nd And 2020 unprotected 1st

Or Barkov

Those are my ideal trades.
I wouldn’t mind a futures trade, everything that Chevy has been working towards is really kicking in now, could use a replenishment via one player for long term success.

CL Nucks, I have one for you

There has been discussion in Canucks land about whether we should tank or try to make the playoffs and I believe this year is a “must” year for the Canucks to make the playoffs. One way to do this is by trading this for Carey Price. The Habs seems to be in a rebuilding stage and trending downward while the Canucks are on the upswing and trending upward, looking to make the playoffs. Maybe the two teams can help each other. Montreal wants young pieces to move forward with and Vancouver needs immediate help on the back end and in goal. So Therefore I propose the following:

Markstrom
Demko
Juolevi
Virtanen
2020 1st
2019 2nd

for

Carey Price
Shea Weber

Another Price proposal, this time to Nashville.

Quote:
1) Pretty sure Price would waive his NMC to play for a cup contender and be reunited with Subban.

2) Preds have Rinne who disappointed in the playoffs and is age 35 on a $7M contract. Do they believe Saros can replace Rinne? Not sure.

3) Preds have no major contracts to negotiate for several years aside from Josi (2 more years). The core is set except for in net. Preds currently have over $9M in cap space so that is not an issue moving forward.

4) What does a guy like Price do for the Preds and does he get them closer to winning a cup in the next 5 years?

Price ($1M retained) for Rinne, Tolvanen, 2019 1st, 2020 2nd, 2022 1st? We can also talk after July 1st of 2019 after Price gets paid his bonus.

Sounds like the needs for TOR are a top 4 RHD and everyone knows the nylander situation so...

TOR receives:
Conor Murphy (top 4 RHD and can play both sides)
Nicholas Beaudin
2nd Round pick

CHI received:
William Nylander

Schneider was a top 5-10 goalie in the NHL a couple years ago, and has had a nagging hip injury the past 2 seasons. As a result, his performance dipped. He had surgery in May, and has been rehabbing ever since. It is the same surgery that Rinne had and came back as an elite goaltender again. Hopefully Schneider can do the same, I see no reason he can't. With Kinkaid proving to be a #1 goalie in the NHL, I think it would be smart for the Devils to keep both goaltenders and ride whoever is hot. If however the a deal came along for Schneider for a team that is getting desperate for goaltending, it would be hard for the Devils to deny.

To CGY:
Schneider
Quenneville

To NJ:
Smith
Brodie
Jankowski
1st round pick

To PHI:
Schneider
Butcher
Noesen
2nd round pick

To NJD:
Elliott
Konecny
Gostisbehere

Probably need to add a 3rd and a 5th to even this out

If Chicago were to move on from some of their long time core players in return for picks and prospects, I think Philadelphia would be a good spot. Unlikely, but it’s something the Flyers could afford long term and is close value wise in picks/prospects.

To Flyers

Patrick Kane
Duncan Keith

To Blackhawks

Phil Myers
Joel Farabee
German Rubstov
Wade Allison
2019 1st
2019 2nd
2020 1st
2020 2nd
Jordan Weal
Andrew MacDonald

——————————

With this return, Chicago quickly rebuilds its prospect pool with players who are close to NHL ready and have top 4 or top 6/9 potential. They also had 4 picks over the next two years, including two 1sts.

Flyers add a dynamic forward that is needed up front and Keith brings a ton of experience sliding into the 3/4 slot with Sanheim.

Fire Hakstol and hire Quenneville as well to make it a party.
