just drank $5 fou foune and kriek at alibi. life is pretty, pretty good.

if you can manage it, check out tangent cafe on sunday night. apparently they are doing a post-FHF event with copper & theory on saturday night. i don't know what the list will be like but i've heard that cantillon and holy mountain will be on tap. i'd wager that there will be some quality stuff left over.

also there is an upright tap takeover at dageraad next thursday.

I have some potentially disappointing news for you if it was clear and yellow but some reassuring news if it was tangy and brown.

Didn't manage to make Tangent on Sunday, unfortunately, but thanks for the heads up. Found some of the latest batch of colour + shape right by where I'm staying (basically at UBC, housesitting), still drinking pretty well! :mact:

I'm in Vermont for just the day and drank a pile of great beer, topped off by finding Lawson's in the grocery store that I can't bring back without paying duty. Fuck

I did sneak home one measly can of Lawson's, haha.

VT beer selection somehow gets better every time. Gas stations on the interstate now have "craft beer" sections.

You know that duty in QC is nothing right? I brought back 9L on a day trip and paid $9

What?? No, I had no idea. I thought it was super expensive when you were there for less than 48 hours.

Also thought you dudes could carry like almost a case over without duty. That was my understanding when I smuggled Caseys in for user captain. I was over the limit but they never looked in my trunk.

An unanswerable question: Which number do you think is greater?

A) The number of beers user practice has stashed in trees.

or

B) The number of beers I (user shank) have stashed in snowbanks.

I can virtually guarantee if the question was quality, then obviously the answer is A.

It varies from province to province. Duty in BC is 90%, I think it's roughly 10% in QC. You can't bring back more than 9L on a day trip, anything above that would get confiscated.

Next time you go bring back a case of Arthur.

I almost never bring more than 6 beers back on a day trip down to WA. I picked up 14 beers on a day trip a while ago and had to pay $80 extra.

If you're away from Canada for 48 hours or more you can bring back a case without worrying.

from my many experiences crossing back into ontario from NY/MI i don't think anybody is gonna ever make you pay duty on one case of beer regardless of how long you've been there, but any more than that (or if you combine it with any liquor) they are gonna ding ya

Yeah it's obviously been a long time since I've looked into this. The cost in NB is roughly 4 times what it is in QC. I didn't realize it varied that much from province to province.

Reviewing the Canada customs website before heading to Vermont for a weekend hockey tournament... looks like I can bring back 8.5L duty free and an additional 9L with duty. Not sure what kind of selection I'll find in rural northern VT but I bet it's better than home!
