Yeah, sure does seem like Detroit's playoff-bound at this point.

They’re at 70 points with 24 games left. 94 has been the projected cutoff so if they go .500 the rest of the way they’re good for it. They also got through some of their tougher remaining games (Van x 2, at Edmonton) coming out of break.

Goaltending aside, it’s amazing how healthy they’ve been (knock on wood). I’d assumed that Edvinsson would be up by now but the D in particular has stayed in the lineup.

They are actually kinda mediocre to bad at most things except shooting which, it turns out, is useful in hockey?

There are a bunch of rumours (ex: now that the SNES are unhappy with their leadership and shopping Tkachuk which HAS TO BE not true?

I guess I could buy it if he wanted out?

The theory is that they prioritize getting high-danger chances at the cost of shot volume (which goes against pretty much all analytic weighting) and on defense, they allow low-quality shots at a higher volume and minimize high-danger chances. I don't know if that entirely checks out, but as frustrated as I get about them forcing the extra pass / not shooting at times, their PP and PK success in the last month and a half line up with the theory.

I'm sure there's a big But Regression!!! response to their shooting percentage but Daniel Sprong, DeBrincat, and Kane should have higher shooting %s, right?

I saw something about that, it would be insanely dumb and they'd never get a good enough return.

DeBrincat seems around his career average but he started out shooting like 30% then regressed for a while and now he's scoring again so I guess he's coming back to his normal?

Yeah he had a month or whatever where he hit post after post but now he’s finishing again. Larkin’s above his career average but not dramatically so vs. his last couple of years.

The box score of that game is pretty wild. Ovechkin's line with Strome and Wilson are all -3, perceived Whale Emoji Fart Emoji draft bust Hendrix Lapierre scored two goals (almost equaling his career total) in limited ice time, and noted trade bait Brady Tkachuk has three points.

SNES allowed 20 shots on goal and lost 6-3.

Who all do you think the SNES will trade at the deadline? Tarasenko seems like a given, can't imagine Kubalik will have (m)any suitors.

I have no idea why any team would trade for Kubalik. I feel like a 7th round pick is the best possible return but it's more of a "future considerations" thing... if anything. Honestly, who would he even help?

Brannstrom maybe? Chychrun?

I suppose I could see some hockey deal with another non-playoff squad like trying to get Saros or something but don't have the brain power to construct a reasonable package that would require and that kind of deal seems more like an offseason thing.

what's that twitter account that gives scorecards for players out of 100? Do those type scorecards say that Wennberg is good? I want to start lobbying for the Leafs to trade a 2024 1st for a guy and wouldn't mind it being him

CL and the Yahoo fantasy app both crashed while I was in Mexico. So much for my (already lost!) fantasy season.

Anyway, I'm back. Thanks for keeping the ship afloat Grand Moff NA.
