great time to revisit this classic quote

Quote:
There is such. Addict, that’s really it. Everyone smokes grass everywhere. The city is all in smoke...They smoke everywhere. There is not something that smells of grass – it stinks, everywhere is stinking. Okay this drug street, where these guys settle, but in downtown, in the center of the city stank the same. We lived on the tenth floor – even there, it used to smell. This is how much you need to smoke? It seems to me, it was possible to stick the receiver out of the window and inhale

I'm home alone this weekend and I sent a text to a half-pal I used to work with seeing what he was up to, is busy but he asked how work was and I'm like "oh great amazing just like you remember it lol" and then he goes, I remember it as a place "where people give their souls to have moments of vicarious contention"

and I wanna tell him he doesn't know what either of those last two words mean! but I can't obviously though I am pleased I won't have to see him on what will now be my solo weekend.

or I guess it's possible he remembers our place of work as a place where people put in their hours for the reward of having imagined arguments with others. which I guess is possible? STILL

That's a very curious turn of phrase. I assume it's close to what Cashin said, like taking the utmost pleasure in imagining / hearing about other people's arguments / disagreements.

That's not too far off from being interested in juicy local gossip, I suppose.

I really do think he meant like, fleeting happiness. I think it's a Little Carmineism.

more like, short-lived contentment! just the way it was phrased and introduced, it made it seem like that was the intended meaning.

some guy wanted to buy a mark hollis record from me on discogs but since we are both in vancouver we took it over to facebook

he added me as a friend and since then my timeline is dominated by his comments supporting max bernier's anti-immigrant policies, decrying the "globalism" of andrew scheer

i know this is naive but it seems strange that someone who would enjoy the music of mark hollis could have these kind of politics

i kind of just want to tell him i decided to keep it

Re: cannabis, I had a bit of a weird experience last weekend where i went to a friends birthday party, which was at the empress bar (a complete deadzone that closes at like 11pm or something because a guy told me its mostly for early evening drunks) in the downtown eastside of vancouver. My friend is there with a group of people that are all homeless, just hanging out, and i have a few drinks, and it's a pretty good night, good conversing about politics (all the homeless dudes loved putin). One of the guys rolls a joint, and my friend and i go out to smoke it with him. Now this guy is pretty cool seeming to me, but he had this weird 50/50 thing going on where half the shit he said was funny and clever, and the other half was just incomprehensible. So i didn’t really have a good handle on him.

My friend asks him about the weed, did u get that from a dispensary, and he kinda gave a shady sounding yes. We start smoking it, and things are good, then the guy launches into this story about how one time, he and his friend were about to hit up with their drug of choice, and he had laced his with fentanyl. Then he had realized he had accidentally given his friend the fentanyl laced hit, and had been super worried that he might have just killed his friend. Luckily, his friend was fine, he just said it was a really good high, and nothing came of it. But as this guy was telling his story, i realized that i myself was feeling very, very high. Ive smoked quite a bit of weed over my life span, but hadnt smoked much for awhile so it might have been that, or just that his weed was potent, but in the moment my brain had been completely terrrified by this dudes story of casually almost killing his friend with drugs. I know that weed normally wouldnt be laced but in the moment...

Anyways when we went back inside i got so anxious that my whole body was vibrating. Dunno if it was more the weed or just my brain panicking, but was a very surreal moment where i thought i was gonna die. So all in all a pretty good night!

I’ve had two or three experiences like that. Paranoia, convincing myself my brain is gonna stop telling my heart to beat. Kinda makes me stop doing it for a while then someone convinced me I just had the wrong strain.

Anyway I haven’t smoked for over a year. Nothing to do with that, I think I just reached a law of diminishing returns thing with it.
