Now would be a great time for Vasi to stop being terrible. Fingers crossed for that Roloson-era Tampa magic!

For real, I know that's a rule but I feel like that warrants some kind of courtesy PM or something.

Like, I would not feel like a human doing this.

My team is out of the playoffs and was not active when this happened, I feel like this is kinda not kosher.

The point of the rule is that teams don't get to stash prospects at the expense of keeping other players on their roster. But I don't have a roster right now and didn't when he played his 75th game.

On one hand, this seems entirely reasonable and I feel like it should be considered. On the other hand, you stole perennial all-star and scoring machine Alex Burmistrov from me.

I mean, I mostly agree. The rules don't completely makes sense with their intended spirit with the 75th game likely aligning with our playoffs. But at the same time, you can sign your prospects at any time before/during/after the season.

I put Backes on IR and saw that Keller was about to play game 75 and Dubois was about to play game 74. I was just trying to win a playoff round.

As for the Keller thing... I would like to identify a community resolution and look at a rule change because it seems like nobody really likes it.

I overreacted cause beer, so please allow me to retract the parts about questioning your quality as a human. Regrettable and false!

I kept an eye on him earlier in the season and kinda tuned out when my team sucked and especially when I didn't make the playoffs so maybe I do not deserve Keller, yet I'm still upset at losing him especially given that it's asking a lot of a GM to give a shit what's happening in the league after their team is eliminated from the playoffs.

I did do this to NA on Burmistrov, it's true (though I can't recall specifics if it was game 75 or weeks later or whatever) For some reason that felt fun! Maybe because he wasn't actually good whereas Keller is a 65-point 19 year old rookie. Maybe because I'm a hypocrite baby. I'm honestly having a hard time assessing.

I looked up Burmistrov. He only played 74 games his first season. I claimed him on Jan 23 the next season, so it would have been game 100+ and his second season in the league.

I feel like this situation, if we had thought of it, would have been very quickly agreed upon as a situation where the player isn't eligible to be claimed. But that's just me.

I waited on signing Burmistrov because he was absolutely unrosterable at that point, especially since I was CONTENDING

Aside from Dringus (who had that awkward "Is he up or is he down" first year) I've had real shit luck with top picks

^^ Which was the intention of the rule: you can't sit on a prospect that is still developing so you can have a more competitive team.

Maybe if you expanded your scouting staff.

Added, Muzzin to IR.

In a stunning twist, Duncan Keith returns to seek revenge against his former team in the finals.

As far as Keller goes, I'd be pretty upset if this had happened to me. I think the idea that your roster isn't active after the regular season ends is pretty reasonable. But it seems to be a grey area in the rules, and if there's a precedent for claiming prospects in the playoffs, then you have to give him to Cashin.

Like he said, 75 games kind of makes for bad timing though because most people have been eliminated and are probably checked out for the year. I think it would make sense to bump it up to like 100-120 games so people at least have the next offseason to sign any prospects in the NHL.

I think this is a reasonable position.

Good matchup so far. That one shutout could be a real difference-maker. Winning would be cool, but I’d really just like to avoid a second finals loss on a tiebreaker in three seasons.

Ugh, hopefully Varlamov getting hurt with five minutes left and missing out on the shutout doesn’t cost me. Tough break, the boys will need to rally together here.
