Hi everyone. I'm getting the league fired up again and just renewed it on Yahoo this morning.

I need everyone to do two things:
-Login to Yahoo and set your keepers before Sept 21 (sooner is better, it only takes 2 minutes)
-Vote on a date and time to hold the auction

Since I'm the commish, you all get to work around my schedule!

Please use the Doodle poll to tell everyone when is best for you and we'll try to make it work from there:

What should I do about Zetterberg if it seems like he's not going to play?

To me, it makes sense that you should leave him on IR and not count his salary toward your auction budget. If he does come back, you can make the choice to drop / buy out players to accommodate his salary or buy him out and roll with the team you have.

Looks like I will need to add Nichushkin back from his Kadri KHL Klause

So for the sake of the auction, I should not retain him as a keeper? I don't know if I can assign him to IR before the auction and have the appropriate number of open slots.

I’ll do some digging to see if a player can be on IR or not before the auction. Might be a case where you leave him off and nobody can take him.

After everyone finalizes their keepers I will manually add new RFA acquisitions to each team.

I did the poll. FA will be away on October 1 and 2 and it's possible I could be available then but it's also possible my kids will still be awake and miserable as hell.

Sunday, Sept 23 at 7:00 PM EST is our magic date and time with 11/11 GMs saying it will work. That was easy!

A few reminders:
1. Update your spreadsheets (this includes assigning new salaries and contracts after the RFA process)
2. Login to Yahoo and set your keepers before Friday, Sept 21
3. I will make roster adjustments and finalize budgets on Saturday, Sept 22

Finally, in case you forgot or missed the conversation altogether, we have a few rule changes in place for the new season. They should only make things easier from a prospect-management perspective. Refresh yourself here:

captain wrote:
-The prospect eligibility limit will be increased to 120 GP (from 75) for skaters and 75 GP (from 40) for goaltenders. This gives each GM approximately a season and a half to evaluate a prospect's performance and decide whether or not they wish to sign the prospect.

-Rosters are frozen at the conclusion of the CFL regular season. No signings (prospect or UFA), claims, or drops can be made between the end of the regular season and the conclusion of the playoffs*, regardless of prospect eligibility status. Any prospects that pass the eligibility threshold are to be signed or released during the offseason.

*The only exception is for active playoff teams on an emergency injury call-up basis:
-If a player on an active playoff team becomes injured (Out, DTD, or IR status), the GM has the choice to sign a prospect to his ELC or to sign a free agent.
-All in-season free agent signing procedures will apply as usual (highest bid for 24 hours, etc.)
-If the GM replacing an injured player has a prospect who has passed the eligibility threshold, the GM is not required to sign that player, though they may choose to.

Looking forward to another good season!

Are you able to add prospects to rosters before the draft, or no?

I won't be able to add them until after we finalize last season's keepers but I'll make sure to have them in place before the draft.

Thanks!

So, I jumped too quickly at signing S. Aho (the D) to his ELC this summer. He's played 22 NHL games, but it's unclear where/how much he'll play this season. Can I put him in the minors (even if he's not in the actual NHL minors and is a 6-7 guy on the Islanders' roster) despite the ELC and not have his $3 count towards my cap hit/25-man roster?

I have no problem with you rescinding your ELC signing of Aho and doing it again when his status is more clear. To me, there's really no point in signing any ELCs in the summer until you actually know where they're going to play.

Signing guys to ELCs way too early is my move!

I signed chabot in the offseason somewhere and he probably needs to be manually added to my team.
