How much is the Coyotes franchise actually worth? A billion dollars seems like a massively inflated value and a gift to their current owner, who deserves no such thing. I maintain that the funniest outcome here is if the league buys the team and then the Jazz owner backs out.

28 years ago pretty close was this franchise's last game in Winnipeg. Can't say it's a surprise that it didn't work in AZ. Hopefully a committed ownership group like they will seemingly get in SLC will go a long way to finally finding some stability.

Friedmann was saying on today's 32 Thoughts that the $1B was basically the cost of "this is going to keep things out of the courts" on the NHL's part. $1B sale to Merulo, $1.2B purchase price by Ryan Smith in SLC, with the extra $200M being distributed amongst the other owners.
