2026 NHL Offseason Thread: You're probably wondering how I got there

SNES start + end playoffs in a somewhat pathetic manner I hadn't personally seen since 1999 Buffalo or 2001 Leafs series. Not great!

What’s your level of concern over Brady potentially wanting out?

For sure - I think they basically need to figure that out this summer and if they can't get a strong feeling that he wants to be back they gotta make a trade? That said, they will almost certainly lose it, at least if Brady only wants to go one place. Not like the Canucks got a great return for Quinn Hughes who is undoubtably a bigger difference maker than Brady is.

Doesn't really feel like Brady is going to be the guy that can lead them. Or maybe it was just a crazy year for him with the injuries and olympics? Dunno. Maybe it's also over-reacting to see his 0/0/0 stats line in a sweep? He could have easily had 2 or 3 goals. Still... he wasn't dominating at any moment. I think it's just apparent they need some more elite game-breakers to contend. Can they swing some deal in the summer to try and convince him he should stay? How much would that contact even be?

On one hand it’s incredibly weird not to be researching whichever high-compete player the Wings would take in the middle of the first / getting my hopes up about a miraculous lottery win, on the other hand I am FREE

Let’s see if Leaves fans / media are more patient with Chayka than they were with Dubas

How about that story that he apparently had several computers in his office in Arizona that were just showing fake stats up on them?

Also is it just me or was his record in Arizona not kind of bad?

It was worse than I remembered. When I read about him I realized it was less “he’s hamstrung by the franchise” and more “he’s making bad decisions.”

I can't remember such unanimous disapproval of any kind of move. The fact that a team legend/plug from the almost glory years and dad of the worst player on the team and in the league is involved is just wild. Oh well, I guess I can maintain a more reasonable sleep schedule for the next few years

I stayed up to watch the raptors game last night til the end of the 3rd quarter and today has made me almost glad the Leafs aren't ever going to make the playoffs again

yeah it seems so bad it can't possibly be good, at the same time I don't think the Ducks or the Oil took anywhere near as much heat for hires that were at least more morally dubious than this. Pelley in particular just seems like a total fraud, a trifler and a coward, and I feel certain that he puts a whole lot of stock into height in his professional interactions, there's that pic of him shaking hands with Brub where he's just staring directly up at him with hearts in his eyes, Chayka must be like 6'5, Treliving is about the same, you just walk into this guy's office and framemog him and then tell him how much to pay you

It's possible it will go well, just so hard to tell because Pelley seems completely in over his head in the press conferences and it erodes any confidence that you might have been able to get from Mats being pretty awesome and calm and Chayka at least holding it together.

Yeah this is crazy, this guy is CEO of Hockey Corporation and some of its non hockey subsidiaries, and he doesn't seem to anticipate that someone will ask "who's in charge?" at this presser
