Sabres and Wings are Wheeler’s top two prospect pools. I assume Buffalo’s first but I keep expecting the Wings to come up earlier and they haven’t. Their ranking is helped mightily by Edvinsson still being in the minors, but they also have multiple first round forwards and defensemen, plus two excellent goalie prospects.

Wings came in second behind Buffalo in Wheeler's prospect pool rankings. Mostly surprised that Benson still qualified when he's been up with the Sabres all year and guys like Bedard / Carlsson / Fantilli were excluded, but Benson is Wheeler's special boy.

The write-ups for the Wings prospects still felt overly negative at times -- Danielson probably being a 3C, talking mostly about Cossa's weaknesses -- and I think they're only #2 because a lot of the higher-drafted prospects have graduated, while Edvinsson's still paying his dues, but it's still encouraging that they're in a playoff spot and have the second-best prospect pool.
