The Official 2025 Offseason Thread: Just me, I guess

Not nearly as bad as Anaheim employing Quenneville, but every draft article has comments from Habs fans about "We need to get into the top five / ten and we should trade 16 + 17 and Logan Mailloux to do it," and it drives me nuts.

1. There's a huge gap between the top eight or so prospects and the next batch.
2. Just because your dumbass team drafted Logan Mailloux doesn't mean other teams want him.
3. Mailloux wasn't good enough to play more than seven games with the Habs this season, so the idea that a win-now team would take him because he's an NHL contributor is nonsense.
4. Even if you'd prefer to win now -- Nashville, Boston I guess -- you only get so many chances to draft a top-six C. The thing the Habs desperately want is also wanted by other teams! Wild!

I just want the draft to happen, whichever prospect I want the Wings to pick to go at 12, and some two-way, low-ceiling, high-compete C to be drafted by the Wings. Get it over with.

SNES drafting Colin White over Konecny (who they could/would have watched all year playing for the 67's) continues to annoy.

Konecny came up on a recent Athletic podcast as a comparable for Viktor Eklund who fell a lot in his draft year. Basically, Ottawa wasn’t alone in passing on him.

was telling a bud the other day about seeing Tyler Toffoli play lots of times when he was on the 67s, how that experience - deciding that obviously the Leafs should pick this guy who only scores goals, and seeing them no, and every other team not do it either until pick 50s - was a really formative part of journey as an internet hockey prospect weirdo

Grand Rapids were down 0-2 in their series against Dallas’s affiliate, and Cossa was sat for Jack Campbell in game two. But tonight they’re up 4-1, Cossa’s back in net, and Brandsegg-Nygard, Danielson, and Lombardi all have goals. MBN had his first AHL goal in the previous game — he doesn’t seem far off from being NHL ready. Ideally all of those guys get games next year.

Just read a very dumb Bleacher Report mock draft (Carbonneau to the Wings, which seems plausible) that starts out with

New York Gets:
Blackhawks 2025 1st Round Pick (3rd overall)
Blackhawks 2025 2nd Round Pick (34th overall)
RW Jack Pridham
Chicago Gets:
Islanders 2025 1st Round Pick (1st overall)
Islanders 2026 2nd Round Pick (TBD)

Then Chicago takes Schaefer, even though their fan base is boners for Misa. Then the difference between 1 and 3 is an early 2nd and a guy who went in the third round versus... what's probably going to be an early second next year? The fuck?
