Re: The Official 2025 Offseason Thread: No childhood photo, no deal
I was briefly concerned that it was Patrick, not Evander.
I still think Patrick Kane sticks with the Wings on a 1 or 2 year deal. He likes it there, has the right deployment (sheltered second-line minutes, PP time), isn't expected to engage physically whatsoever. Apparently Leaves fans were horny for him replacing some of Marner's offense, and yeah, he could do that, but Marner also plays defense.
Evander, as stated, is addicted to taking the dumbest possible penalties. In theory the Oilers will miss the times when he was a contributor, but all I remember him doing in the finals was jamming his hockey stick into the spokes of the Oilers' first-period bicycle (and/or a Panth face) and then talking needless shit the rest of the game. It'll be easier to root for them without him.
Likewise, the Canucks could be helped by adding him to their top six, but it's far more likely that Good EP goes into clinical depression over having to listen to Evander on the bench.

Re: The Official 2025 Offseason Thread: No childhood photo, no deal
In terms of the unqualified guys:
Kostin probably goes back to Russia. I was psyched about him coming to Detroit after how he looked with thee Goil in the previous playoffs, but he 1. wanted top-six deployment 2. barely played well enough to earn bottom-six deployment. Every dozen games he'll impress and you'll go "Wow, that's an ideal bottom-sixer!" but the consistency isn't there.
Cody Glass has bounced around a lot in the last few years and I struggle to see how he's much more than a 4C. Health is a big part of that but in terms of underwhelming 2017 picks, I'd rather have Michael Rasmussen.
Kurashev feels like Dominik Kubalik 2.0: he can fill in as a top-six wing if you have no other options, but he's absolutely not a line-driver and if he's in your top-six, you're not going to win. I assume he gets another roster spot elsewhere and it doesn't pan out.

No retained salary. Amazing.

ideally it would be Nurse but I don't think Edmonton can do that without retaining salary

back to back headlines on Sportsnet earlier today:
"McDavid meets with management to future discuss direction of franchise" and "Kane traded"
surely unrelated

The problem for Edmonton is that aside from (possibly) Gibson, who may or may not be up for going there, I don’t think there’s an available goalie who is a clear step up from Skinner. My concern with trading Bouchard is that I don’t think they’d spend that ten million very wisely.
I’ll give Nurse credit: he was a lot better this playoffs than last year.

My hot take is that if Mogilny gets in the Hall, Zetterberg also deserves it. I assume their era-adjusted point totals are similar, Zetterberg was a far better two-way player, and has a superior playoff resume.

Era adjusted points:
Zetterberg 1069
Mogilny 1054 (tied with Jamie Benn, barf)
I really hope not hitting 1000 doesn’t keep Zetterberg out, since he missed 1.5 seasons of his prime due to lockouts.

zetterberg maybe my 2nd favourite player of all time but for HOF i understand prioritizing brief period of being arguably the best in the world over sustained really really goodness

That's an underwhelming return, but hey, they got NHL players back instead of futures!According to a league source, Buffalo is sending JJ Peterka to Utah for right-handed defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Doan. As part of the deal, Peterka has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Mammoth worth $7.7 million per season.
Re: The Official 2025 Offseason Thread: No childhood photo, no deal
The Wild apparently offered Rossi for Peterka in a swap that the Sabres declined

Good thing GMBG signed him to that unnecessary long term deal!
