My mom has a reoccurrence of spots in her lungs. She's getting treatment but can't handle chemo anymore. A few weeks ago she was having tests to see if it had spread (it hasn't), and I had a real depressing reckoning over the thought of neither of my parents being around anymore.
This is kinda what caught up with my mom. She first got diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991 when I was 10. She had never gotten clear of it and eventually had a reoccurrence in 2009 and had multiple surgeries. She had been getting chemo and radiation more times than I can count and finally developed respiratory issues and declined rapidly this year. I am happy she doesn’t have to deal with this anymore but it was super hard seeing her like this last week. Spent most of the week by her bed to give my dad and sister a break.

So

Yesterday my sister and brother in law went over to visit my mom and initially couldn’t find her, even though her car / purse / cigarettes were there and the door was unlocked. Eventually they found her collapsed on the basement floor. She had a brain bleed and fell (in some order). It’s a severe brain bleed and she’s in a coma now and unresponsive. I did the ten hour drive from 5pm to 3am not sure if she’d be alive when I got there. She is still alive but the prognosis is certain, and they’re going to take the ventilator tubes out at some point today. The last time I talked to her, she was optimistic about how her treatment was going and said she was looking forward to being around for a few more years.

My mom didn’t want a funeral / memorial service, but Kid Artillery is off at music camp for another week. She was close with my mom and it’s going to be really tough to tell her when we pick her up.

My mom passed away just before 2, they’d taken her off the ventilator. Currently trying my hardest not to be in her house by myself.

I’m flying back to Arizona today for my Mom’s memorial service and having pretty extreme anxiety and am not looking forward to this. Saturday will be one month and while it will be nice to see family again I am kinda dreading all this.

If you need anything bahd let me know. Thinking of you.

I knew I was going to have a panic attack if I was in my mom's house for long by myself. Seeing my sister's family on Tuesday was good, at least. I'm back in Ann Arbor as of 1:30am this morning. We were originally planning on driving out as a family to see my mom after her birthday next week, which is one of the two yearly times we make the drive, but I would not be able to handle being there so soon. I think she'll have a memorial service in a month or two and we'll head back for that. I completely understand your anxiety over that trip -- it's going to be so tough.

My brother-in-law just emailed me the obituary that my sister wrote and I need to look over it. Fuuuuuuuuuuck.
