anyone riding the waves of this air canada strike? our best ever price direct flight to ottawa got cancelled on saturday, got rebooked for one with a connection in chicago tomorrow on united airlines. when checking in just now we were asked to name our price for being bumped off the flight due to overbooking.

i lost my dad this summer (he was a deadbeat and we weren't super close) but a bit of a crazy thing. i was out with my friends for game 2 of the SCF when i got the news which was a wild setting. i also had my first ever panic attack like 3 days after it happened?

anyway i had a nice summer in spite of it all and now i am ready to commish our hockey league and plug my ears for oilers bridesmaid content and mcdavid contract stuff

when I was in ottawa a few weeks ago I was sitting at a table in sight of my mom's phone when a message popped up from my childhood best friend's mom and I thought no way is she texting my mom with good news. when my mom read it and said oh god etc I thought, against my will: I hope it was [husband] and not [son]. obviously it was her son, my best friend for like 10 years until I had to make new friends after we moved from hamilton. took all his meds, call it what you will. any other week in the year I'm probably learning this from 5 hours in the future and sending a card, instead I was speaking to his parents on the phone like 9 hours after they got the news themselves. I've been keeping a photo of us as kids as a bookmark since that night when we went looking for old pictures but mostly not looking at it. the last time I saw him was when my sister was in the hospital in hamilton like 20 years ago and I stayed at his and his parents place. him and his buds were jocks and I was a guelph indie rock wannabe. I took my mom's car to toronto to see the constantines and when I got back him and his friends had been to a strip club and I didn't offer to drive any of them home. I don't know if I ever thought about getting in touch again, sure wish I had though

I don't think there's a baseball thread but whatever the Tigers have been doing over the last few weeks is very much in line with the string of devastation and grief in the last few pages.

I took Neu! 15 to the game on Friday and they lost 10-1. They had a fireworks display scheduled for after the game, which felt perverse.
