Big kill early in the third
If the Wings’ PK can be average this year it would make a huge difference
Now it’s even after a Toronto high stick on Chiarot

Leaves could’ve had a few penalties in the offensive zone
Now Edvinsson and McMann go off for matching minors, Toronto takes that trade off every time

Back ref calls a penalty on Berggren with like five minutes left
I thought it was a good hit, Berggren equally confused. Seems like an “even up the penalties” call.

I assume Hamonic started the first game because they feel like he can kill penalties and JBD can’t, but man he needs to sit until there’s an injury. Just like ASP kill penalties.

Stolarz looked great in the first. Roy was the most impactful forward. Matthews had a number of characteristically terrifying moments. But the Wings carried the play for the majority of the night and the Leaves D doesn’t look good.

matthews penalty when leafs were on the PP was so stupid/careless
was a good game, wings D didn't look so hot either but maybe i'm just focusing too much on chiarot
sandin-pellikka seemed pretty good

Chiarot’s definitely in “running around” mode, which doesn’t help Seider

I listened to Wings Leaves 2: This Time It's on a Holiday on the radio on the drive back from Chicago. Moving the game up because of the Jays game ruined my initial timing that would've let me watch it at home.
Anyway it was basically a reverse of game one in that the Leaves carried the play. Sounded like Cowen worked a lot better up with Matthews and Knies. They vastly outshot the Wings but Talbot was huge all night.
Wings sounded listless for the most part. Larkin got a PP goal near the end of the first and they coasted on that until JVR (in his first game as a Wing) finished a 2 on 1 with Copp in the third. The Leaves were caving in Detroit though and I was not surprised when they scored two goals to tie it. Raymond left the game with a shoulder injury in the second after a hit along the boards from Tanev.
What I thought was going to happen at the end of the game: Auston Matthews would score with 45 seconds left and keep the Wings from even getting a loser point
What actually happened: Mason Appleton (!), who was up on Larkin's line in place of Raymond, scored with 45 seconds left and the Wings held on to win in regulation
