Official Ice Hockey Participants Thread

Post by club lonely »

y'all still skating? my league is doing the 3-game round robin playoffs again. we won our first game last weekend. gonna be playing again this evening.

also i got my first non-wood/foam core goalie stick. i guess it's like full composite or whatever. loving it. has definitely improved my game and it seems like it will last a long time. i am terrible at stick-handling, but the flex alone is helping when i pass the puck. rebound control seems to be better too

What’s the price range on a composite goalie stick?

I still haven't played since moving. I keep meaning to check out one of the local pick-ups but they're either at weird times or I'm worried that they'd be way above my skill level.

I am teaching Neu! 15 how to skate, though.

Reading some of this "what minor hockey might look like" stuff is making me depressed.

Not that it's remotely important in the grand scheme of things, but beer league is going to be pretty much the last thing to resume, right?

I haven't played hockey since last summer and who knows how long it'll be before I play again.

I do miss hanging out with my old team and the pick-up regulars.

I can't imagine people will be gung-ho about restarting beer leagues but then again, the dude who ran my old league really liked getting money from it.

our league is organized by the local park district so i'm assuming they have to wait until the state of IL allows the rink to be opened. there's a privately-owned rink within driving distance, but they probably have to follow the same regulations. i miss playing hockey so much.

out of curiosity, how much does synthetic ice cost, ca$hin?

Way too facking much is the answer!

One of my son's trainers is a HockeyShot endorser, so I ended up getting in on an order he was placing for the heavy duty commercial grade tiles. I'm going to do a 12'x16' area on my driveway, which is still pretty small but should be usable.

Just got an email that my beer league is hoping to start playing again... a week from Monday?!

Seems very optimistic and risky, no?

cross post from Shootin' the Buttz...

I'm finally making some progress in my knee rehab (been doing physio since Jan, getting old suuuucks), so I don't think I'll be playing this summer even if I thought it was a good idea (at this point I don't). I think I'll just keep doing my exercises and riding the bike and hope for the best by fall/winter.

Seems like a good approach. I don't know if rinks are opening up here, but I'm fine with waiting until things are definitely calmed down before hitting the ice again.

Mixed feelings about it, but I'm letting Jr. on the ice for private small group training starting today. All his peers have been on the ice for 3-4 weeks now and I buckled to the peer pressure once my mother-in-law left for her home.

Pretty crazy protocols and restrictions... need to show up fully dressed except for skates, can only enter the arena 15 minutes before the clinic, no parents allowed in the building, leave the premises as soon as you're off the ice.
