I haven't seen much of the Stars lately, but what the heck is going on with Jason Robertson?!

Judging from the two games I’ve watched this week (both of which he’s scored in), he’s playing with Hintz and Pavelski, he’s really good at slipping into open areas in front of the net (and the Wings are bad at covering said areas), and he has great hands to finish these chances. FA saw him and said “Who’s the 18 year old?” and he absolutely looks like a college freshman, but he’s really exuberant and up-beat when he’s out there or on the bench and I would probably find that endearing if he weren’t scoring goals against my team.

He's trying to steal the Calder from my beautiful boy KK.

I don't think Robertson has a chance if the Stars miss the playoffs

I also don't think he deserves it over KK, who is clearly the best forward on Minnesota, whereas Hintz and Pavelski have been great for Dallas.

Yeah I don't think that article in the Athletic truly gets this. An injured Hintz is a billion times better than Victor Rask I'm sorry.

KK would be 15 points up by now with a semi-competent center.

I didn't realize that "Robertson for the Calder" was already a thing. I just noticed his gaudy point totals over the last 30 days. I guess it helps that Dallas has been playing 4 games every week.

I muted some Daily Wager hashtag that Wyshynski used and then of course he tweeted about how exciting it was that Calgary/Montreal made the over

Anyway as for actual hockey, Kaprizov scored a fucking sick goal

Another win sure but man the Wild need to stop getting outshot like this. The Kangs should not be a team you surrender 42 shots to.

Habs keep doing their part to make a playoff race continue in the North.

The Habs are very good at convincing people to take them seriously and then immediately testing that commitment.

One thing I don’t get is why people put greater value in 5 on 5 scoring vs. PP scoring. They’re both goals! Having a great PP is huge and there’s no reason to act like even-strength scoring is somehow more valuable. (This came up with Robertson vs. Kaprizov.)

If you’re not on the team’s top PP unit, maybe there’s a reason why!

Mostly I think it's just seen as a better baseline evaluation tool since PP time can't be easily predicted and is not evenly distributed - 5v5 applies to all players so it's "apples to apples" for comparison, not just elite players or PP specialists. I think 5v5 scoring is also viewed as more difficult than PP scoring so a better gauge of true ability in relation to other players. Much larger sample size too, PPs can be more streaky/luck based.

So I don't know if it's more valuable, but more informative probably.

It’s more informative in theory but I feel like it gets trotted out to positively compare middle-six guys to top-line guys. Like EV points per 60 — if you don’t play that much, but you get easier deployment (offensive zone starts, playing against weaker lines and D pairs), yeah, you may have more EV points per 60. But the idea that a player would be elite if they had an elite player’s ice time doesn’t necessarily track.

Like there’s a specific type of guy who does well in EV points / 60, Athanasiou was an example when he was on the Wings. He got sheltered minutes because the team didn’t trust him to play defense. Even Svech 1.0 was getting hyped on that number early in the season.

Andrew Shaw retires from concussion issues at 29, they really took away his game of being a total fucking asshole on the ice. I barely remember him doing anything shitty since his first year in Montreal.
