I don’t think this has been discussed a lot here or in the media, but one of my big takeaways from this sad fart of a Free Agent Frenzy is that very few teams have improved themselves. It’s possible that the Habs getting Dobson is the biggest needle-mover among the 7-14 teams in the East, and I do wonder if losing trusted defensive forwards causes their PK to crater. I could also see regression from Montembault. Detroit didn’t get a top-six winger or top-four D but they added Gibson. Even the Rangers getting Gavrikov is offset by the Miller and Kreider trades. They still seem like a mess.
I would be more concerned if Columbus added Ehlers or Boston got [invent a center].

Nick Leddy on waivers, I do not anticipate a Detroit reunion even though he'd probably be an improvement. He did not fit here at all.

Seems fine, he fills the more traditional bottom-six type I thought they needed. Still have a glaring hole in the top six but I don’t think that’s getting addressed

Nyqvist signs with Winnipeg for a year. Seems fine as a third line, PP2 guy? But maybe his juice is entirely gone after dropping from 75 to 28 points last year?

I do wonder if being part of Nashville’s crash-out killed his productivity. He could be good with Perfetti, for instance.

The St. Louis Blues signed center Pius Suter to a two-year, $8.25 million contract on Wednesday, league sources told The Athletic’s Chris Johnston. The deal will be worth $4.125 million against the salary cap.

at least the Leafs got worse
