That felt like a foregone conclusion. They permanently need a 2C.

I could see Toews working out there, in the sense that he'll be leaving practice some afternoon, heading home, a darker grey breaking through a lighter one, the same route everyday, and in the turning lane, someone's stalled again

I’m pretty good with giving Toews a try, and it’s a great story but I’m not holding my breath tooooo much about what kind of player he’ll be at this point.

I’m pretty surprised that Washington’s a no-tax state, tbh. Politically they couldn’t be further than Texas, Tennessee or Florida

I have no clue how he'll do. Could he come in an be a 50-60 point two-way center, lock down their second line, and become the biggest voice in the room? Sure. Could he make it a week into training camp, realize he can't do it, and never play a regular season game with them? Also plausible!

To be fair, the idea of driving home from the United Center and losing your mind at the traffic might be worse

Chicago trades Joe Veleno to Seattle for Andre Burakovsky

Hope he didn’t buy real estate there

Bouchard wants $10M per. I do think the turnovers thing is overplayed and he gets blame for things that he should not... but that also seems too high to me? Guy is very good, but how good/many points would he have on a team without McDavid/Draisaitl? (maybe I just don't watch them enough and he's literally amazing?)

There's an article in The Athletic today about teams who would be in on JJ Peterka. The Wings aren't one of the 12 covered, even though I think they'd be in the mix, but they do come up in the comments. Typical of a lot of the Sabres fan sentiment there, someone said "Is Dylan Larkin coming back?" which is just a "C'mon, man" response. Sabres fans seem to believe that they have the leverage in this scenario, since he's under team control for a few years longer, and should be able to get a player who will improve their team instead of picks / prospects / lesser pieces. If it's clear that he wants out, I don't see them winning this trade. I understand that they never win trades (except the Middlestadt for Byram deal, although Byram also appears to be on the block) and that stings, but Buffalo does not have the leverage here.

I suspect that like discussions on Dylan Cozens, in whom Yzerman was reportedly interested, it'll go like this: "We want Marco Kasper." "We're not trading Marco Kasper. Do you want Nate Danielson and a first?" "No, we want Marco Kasper or Axel Sandin-Pellikka." "OK, bye."

Speaking of losing trades, the Ducks traded Zegras to Phily for Ryan Poehling and a couple meh picks.

Remember when Poehling scored a hat trick in his first game and Habs fans were gloating?

Zegras is a piece of shit (that headshot on Rasmussen and saying "No way" over and over when the refs were considering whether they should call a penalty on it) and a one-dimensional player, but if he's playing center, it's hard not to see him as an improvement on the Flyers' options down the middle. I assume he'll play with Michkov and get 50 assists and be a -35.

Philly has three first this year and only gave up a mid-second, a fourth, and Poehling.
