I watched After the Hunt at VIFF last night and that is one of the worst movies I've seen in forever

I think the only one of that guy's films that I've seen is Challengers, which was mostly fun because of the score. I just looked at the premise of After the Hunt and it seems like it would be No Fun Whatsoever and tediously grandstanding.

What a damb picture, I loved how it was slowly revealing what was actually going on. Spencer Tracy karate chopping some dudes rocked. Robert Ryan playing a real sunuvabitch(Quelle surprise) some incredible photography of people just standing on the railway or in front of a distant mountain. I would say a fairly realistic portrayal of people along a spectrum of morality from actively participating in cruelty to knowing ignorance but feeling badly about it of something terrible happening and trying to move on but being shook but a new entity entering the picture.

Truc what other Nicholas Ray films have you seen besides In a Lonely Place (which is, in fact, great)?

What a great movie, Bogey maybe at his best when just playing a complete scumbag(see also Treasure of the Sierre Madre), with Nicholas Ray I've seen Johnny Guitar which rules and On Dangerous Ground which I liked quite a bit. I see you've seen those two. I've also seen The Savage Innocents which is fairly impressive in terms of sets and kind of interesting because it's trying to be sympathetic to the Inuit but maybe having mixed results. Noted Mexican Anthony Quinn(close enough) plays an Inuit fella where the inciting incident is he accidently kills a priest for refusing to fuck his wife. Peter O'Toole shows up a as a Mountie at some point, it's interesting at least.

I really only just started using the watchlist feature a fewof weeks ago and added this one because someone I follow gave it 5 stars then i looked and several other people (including you) had given it 5 stars. Sounds like a laugh riot!

Truc is John Ford's 7 Women better than Robert Altman's 3 Women?

I've seen probably a dozen of Altman's movies but that one is a blindspot, I've been meaning to see it. 7 Women was great though, Anne Bancroft comes into a Christian mission in China in the 30s and is hacking darts and swearing and telling all the uptight ladies who work there God isn't real. Apparently at the time it was kind of considered too traditional by hip people and too weird and dark for a traditional audience but I think these days it holds up pretty well.(other than a bit of Mongolface from Mike Mazurki and WIlly Strode)
